Displays
A seven-segment display is a set of seven bar-shaped LED (light-emitting diode) or LCD (liquid crystal display) elements, arranged to form a squared-off figure 8. If all elements are activated, the display shows a numeral 8. When some of the elements are activated but not others, any single-digit numeral from 0 to 9, as well as most uppercase and lowercase letters of the English alphabet, can be portrayed.
The LCD screen is more energy efficient and can be disposed of more safely than a CRT. Its low electrical power consumption enables it to be used in battery - powered electronic equipment. It is an electronically modulated optical device made up of any number of segments filled with liquid crystals and arrayed in front of a light source (backlight) or reflector to produce images in color or monochrome.
